Merrill Perlman is an editor and consultant. Among her regular clients are The New York Times, ProPublica, Amazon Kindle Singles, Rosetta Books and the Poynter Institute’s NewsU, where she developed and presents an online group seminar on self-editing. She writes the “Language Corner” column and blog for Columbia Journalism Review and is an adjunct assistant professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She spent 25 years at The New York Times, leaving in 2008 when she was director of copy desks, managing more than 150 copy editors. She is president of the Education Fund of the American Copy Editors Society and received ACES’ Glamann Award, given for contributions to editing.
